The World Tourism Organization has awarded Tra Que Vegetable Village, a nearly 400-year-old farming community in Hoi An, the prestigious title of World’s Best Tourism Village. This honor highlights the village’s unique heritage, sustainable farming methods, and immersive tourism experiences. Known for its manual farming techniques and fragrant herbs, Tra Que Village sees around 20,000-30,000 visitors annually and is the second village in Vietnam to earn this title.

Discover Authentic Farming and Fresh Flavors

Surrounded by the Co Co River and lush paddy fields, Tra Que Village uses traditional organic methods, foregoing chemical fertilizers for natural river-sourced moss and alluvial soil. Visitors can take hands-on tours, learning to plant and harvest vegetables and enjoy refreshments made from the local produce. Tra Que’s aromatic herbs supply many of Hoi An’s renowned restaurants and neighboring Da Nang City’s markets, making it an essential part of the region’s culinary scene.

A Boost for Eco-Tourism in Hoi An

Hoi An’s administration hopes this recognition will bolster its vision of becoming a prime cultural and eco-friendly destination. The accolade acknowledges the combined efforts of local authorities and residents to preserve the village’s rustic charm, sustainable farming, and eco-tourism potential. This December, an official ceremony in Hoi An will celebrate Tra Que’s achievement, spotlighting Vietnam’s growing appeal as a travel destination that balances cultural richness and environmental consciousness.
