If you’re seeking a luxurious getaway that aligns with your eco-conscious values, look no further than Banyan Tree Samui. Nestled on the tropical island of Koh Samui, this five-star resort is elevating sustainable luxury through a series of innovative initiatives that set new standards in responsible tourism.

A Commitment to Ethical Sourcing

Starting this year, Banyan Tree Samui has significantly increased its procurement of cage-free eggs. What began as a modest 2.8% of cage-free egg purchases in January has impressively expanded to over two-thirds by May. This shift not only supports animal welfare but also ensures that guests enjoy higher-quality, ethically sourced ingredients during their stay.

In tandem with this, the resort has introduced a policy to purchase only sustainable seafood certified by the Marine Stewardship Council and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council. These certifications, monitored by global authority Bureau Veritas, guarantee that seafood is sourced responsibly. While the resort prides itself on purchasing local seafood, imported items like salmon and snow fish now meet international sustainability standards, ensuring that every dish served is both delicious and conscientious.

Innovative Recycling and Upcycling Practices

Banyan Tree Samui takes waste management seriously. The resort has implemented a comprehensive recycling and upcycling program for coffee waste. Used coffee capsules and aluminium are transformed into everyday products such as bicycles, chairs, pens, and even window frames. Meanwhile, coffee grounds are repurposed as compost fertilizer and converted into biofuel, contributing to a circular economy and reducing landfill waste.

Award-Winning Sustainability

These efforts have not gone unnoticed. Banyan Tree Samui holds the distinction of being the first hotel in Thailand to receive the highest level of certification from global sustainability watchdog EarthCheck. Additionally, the resort’s signature restaurant, Saffron, adheres to rigorous sustainability guidelines, offering guests an exceptional dining experience that doesn’t compromise on environmental ethics.
